Four-card Omaha lesson

PLO4 on ClubGG

Learn which five cards are legal before judging hand strength or calculating a pot-limit raise. The rules are stable; a named Club's current tables and settings are not.

Four cards, but only two count

A PLO4 player receives four private cards. At showdown, choose exactly two of those cards and exactly three of the five community cards. A promising card on its own cannot be combined with four board cards as it could in Hold'em.

2 hole + 3 board

The six pairs are six possible selections from one holding, not six independent outcomes. Evaluate each selected pair against legal three-card board selections and keep the best five-card hand.

The one-spade flush trap

This hypothetical deal has four spades on the board and one in the player's hand. It looks like a flush if you borrow four board cards, but that construction is illegal in Omaha.

A legal pair, not a five-spade shortcut

Four hole cards
Five-card board

Best legal hand: K♦ and A♠ from the hand, with K♠, 9♠ and 7♠ from the board — one pair of kings with A-9-7 kickers.

A♠ plus K♠-9♠-7♠-4♠ would use only one hole card and four board cards. It is not a PLO4 flush. With only one spade in the four-card holding, no two-spade hole-card pair exists.

What “pot-limit” permits

For a transparent worked example, assume a hypothetical play-chip pot of 100 before this betting decision. An opponent bets 40. You have made no contribution on this street, have enough chips to cover the legal maximum, and there are no other bets or side pots. This is arithmetic, not a recommended wager.

On narrow screens, scroll the table horizontally. Keyboard: focus the table region and use the arrow keys.

Hypothetical play-chip ledger: 100 in the pot, then a 40-chip bet

“Raise by 180” and “put in 220 total” are different statements. Earlier contributions, other bets, minimum-raise rules and available stacks change a real table calculation; follow the current in-app control for the actual action.

Use the rule in decisions

First name the best legal five cards now, using two hole cards and three board cards. Then look at possible next cards: a draw matters only if it can complete a legal hand. In the spade example, A♠ is not a flush draw by itself because there is no second spade in the hole cards.

A blocker is narrower than a verdict. Holding A♠ removes that physical card from opponents' possible hands, but does not tell you their full holding or turn an illegal one-hole-card flush into a legal one. Acting later can reveal prior action before you decide; it does not establish the best hand or promise a result.

Before treating a table as PLO4

  1. Confirm the named Club and table, then read the displayed Omaha card count and hand-construction rule.
  2. Check the present blind or ante structure and pot-limit control. The arithmetic above does not certify any Club's chip amounts.
  3. Treat bomb pots, double boards and Hi-Lo as separate variants needing their own current named source; this page does not assert that a ClubGG table offers them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PLO4?

Four-card Pot-Limit Omaha deals four private cards. A final high hand uses exactly two of them and exactly three community cards; pot-limit rules cap each bet or raise.

How many two-card combinations does a PLO4 hand contain?

Four distinct hole cards offer six unordered two-card selections. They are possible legal selections, not six independent hands or an equity percentage.

Can I use only one hole card to make a flush?

No. Even if four board cards share a suit, Omaha requires two hole cards and three board cards. One suited hole card cannot complete a legal flush.

Are double-board and bomb-pot PLO4 tables always available?

This rules lesson does not establish either variant at a current ClubGG table. They are separate poker structures; check a named table's current in-app rules rather than inferring availability from a general guide.
